Ruckus Wireless Wins SPIFFY Award for Engineering Excellence by the Telecom Council of Silicon Valley
Smart Wi-Fi Technology Recognized for Groundbreaking Achievement in Wi-Fi Signal Strength and Range to Establish Wireless Network Performance as Reliable as a Wire
SUNNYVALE, CA, March 3, 2008 – Ruckus Wireless announced today that it was honored with a SPIFFY Ground Breaker Award for Engineering Excellence by the Service Providers Forum (SPiF) of the Telecom Council of Silicon Valley (www.telecomcouncil.com). The awards were given at the Service Provider Forum Annual Networking and Recognition Event last week.
The SPIFFY Awards recognize the most outstanding telecommunications start-ups in Silicon Valley, as judged by SPiF members. Ruckus was voted the leader in ground breaking engineering excellence from among a pool of seven companies, based on the innovation of its Smart Wi-Fi technology.
Ruckus Smart Wi-Fi, the company's patented smart antenna technology, was designed to increase the range and capacity of Wi-Fi, enabling wireless network performance that's as reliable as a wired network. In its Smart Wi-Fi devices -- used by broadband service providers around the world -- Ruckus integrates an intelligent antenna array which provides complete control over the Wi-Fi environment, automatically steering signals around interference as it is experienced and ensuring high reliability and predictable, high performance in all locations.
'The Ground Breaker Award for Engineering Excellence is offered to the company that has moved the telecom industry forward with its technological advancements. Our carrier members selected the winner from 100s of young telecom companies for producing an excellent telecom product and filling a market gap with its consumer service. With its Smart Wi-Fi technology, Ruckus meets all of this criteria – and more,' said Liz Kerton, president of the Telecom Council of the Silicon Valley.
'This award is a great honor, as it recognizes one of the most important elements of our technology innovation – the design and development team that made it happen,' said Steve Martin, vice president of engineering for Ruckus Wireless. 'We hope to make an even greater impact this year with our new 802.11n systems, which are now coming to market. As our name implies, we're not satisfied if we're not making a 'ruckus,'' Martin said.
Smart Wi-Fi: Making Wi-Fi Grow Up
Ruckus Wireless Smart Wi-Fi technology transforms Wi-Fi from a technology of convenience to a reliable utility in homes, enterprises and hotspots in every corner of the globe. The technology is based on a patented multi-element antenna array that enables real-time signal path selection and interference rejection, resulting in a consistently reliable Wi-Fi connection – even for high-bandwidth applications like voice and video and in challenging, interference-prone environments.
Ruckus Smart Wi-Fi systems deliver peak capacities of up to 200 mbps of raw data throughput, however, 'worst-case sustained throughput' – a measure of the systems' actual performance, and the number people care most about -- is between 60 and 80 mbps in all corners of a 5,000-square-foot structure.
Ruckus Smart Wi-Fi systems are ideal for broadband operators that provide triple-play services to consumers and businesses, and is also perfectly suited for enterprise deployments in public venues like hotels, schools, hospitals, airports and Wi-Fi hotspots.
