LTE Coverage with Wi-Fi Simplicity

Ruckus OpenG technology addresses this by combining shared spectrum LTE-based capabilities on the CBRS band with neutral host capable small cells. OpenG will enable our customers to deploy cost-effective in-building and outdoor cellular coverage & capacity with Wi-Fi like simplicity. This can be achieved utilizing stand-alone Ruckus 3.5GHz small cells or with plug in units that connect to the current Ruckus Wi-Fi access points.

The challenge of high quality in-building cellular coverage and capacity is evident with the prevalent existence of cellular “dead spots” within buildings and campuses. Generally these dead spots occur because new building materials block signals, macro reach to high floors isn’t dependable, street level shadowing diminishes connectivity, and lower-frequency spectrum is reaching its capacity limit. This results in poor cellular performance, meaning disruption in service, for anyone using a cell phone in-building.

OpenG technology in the US is based on the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) mandated Citizen's Broadband Radio Service (CBRS) in the 3.5 GHz band. This will open up to 150 MHz of much needed spectrum (3550-3700 MHz) for commercial use in the US. OpenG technology combines the option to leverage shared spectrum capabilities, such as 3.5 GHz in the U.S., with neutral host capable small cells to enable building owners of all sizes to deploy cost-effective in-building cellular coverage for all of their customer and employee needs. Ruckus’ vision offers a significantly less expensive, easier-to-deploy, mobile network-neutral alternative to distributed antenna systems (DAS) and traditional small cells.

OpenG is a global opportunity; it is not U.S. only. Throughout the world, regulatory bodies are also expected to adopt similar rules for CBRS-like spectrum that will empower consumers in their respective countries. These may use 3.5 GHz spectrum, or they may use other available spectrum bands.
