What it means:

Smart, compact adaptive antenna systems containing multiple elements that electrically manipulate antenna properties so as to create optimal antenna patterns for each device with which they communicate.

Why you should care:

Traditional wireless antennas are either “omnidirectional” (radiating signals in all directions) or “directional” (radiating signals in one direction). Ruckus BeamFlex Adaptive Antenna Technology takes a more adaptable approach. BeamFlex technology enables the antenna system within a Ruckus AP to continually sense and optimize for its environment.

This antenna system mitigates radio interference, noise and network performance issues, and improves application flows. The results:

BeamFlex+ is an enhancement to Ruckus BeamFlex adaptive antenna technology by providing adaptive support to mobile devices. BeamFlex+ enables antennas to adapt to client device orientation in addition to client device location.

Dynamic Pre-shared Key (DPSK)

Security and Onboarding

What it means:

Dynamic Pre-Shared Key (DPSK) is a Ruckus developed technology that provides secure access and simplicity by providing each device or user with a unique PSK credential. Traditional Pre-shared keys (PSK) are shared by all users on a WLAN, giving it inherent vulnerabilities. If the passphrase is compromised, traffic for the entire WLAN is subject to eavesdropping and decryption by any passive observer. Further, to maintain security, all devices on the WLAN will need to be re-provisioned—this is true for all forms of passphrase compromise, including intentional or unintentional sharing, cracking, or device theft. DPSK is a Ruckus extension to the standard by which each and every associated device is issued its own unique passphrase, which is used for authentication and to create encryption keys. By provisioning each device uniquely, you get the benefits of per-device or per-user credentials found in 802.1X, but you maintain the usability and network simplicity benefits of PSK. Credentials can be created and revoked individually, and controlled with expiration intervals. Each DPSK can also be tied to a unique role or policy (even on a single WLAN), such as VLAN, ACLs, rate limits, and more.

Why you should care:

DPSK strengthens the security of the wireless network by vastly reducing the attack footprint of PSKs. It also reduces IT overhead, adds policy flexibility, and improves administrator visibility and control.
