Ruckus Wireless to Showcase Innovations in Next Generation Multimedia Hotspots at CableLabs® Technology Forum

Location-Aware Content Delivery and HD Digital Signage with Streaming Adverts over 802.11n Helps Cable Operators Economically Deliver New Branded Services to Consumers and Businesses, Tap into New Revenue Sources

SUNNYVALE, CA, February 4, 2009 – Ruckus Wireless™ will demonstrate advances in 802.11n technology that lets cable operators easily and economically offer smarter hotspot (SmartSpot) services, including location-aware content delivery to hotspot users and streaming of live, High-Definition content and advertising to digital signage panels.

The demonstration is being held in conjunction with the prestigious CableLabs® Technology Forum on February 8-10th in Colorado Springs. CableLabs also will present an Innovation Showcase session featuring Ruckus and other companies that will present and demonstrate the latest in broadband technology. Last year (2008), Ruckus Wireless’s demonstration of its MediaFlex 802.11n system was voted “Best Product Idea” by the audience for the smooth transmission of three high-definition IP-based video streams while concurrently streaming a youTube video and making a live VoIP call.

This year, Ruckus Wireless will demonstrate the application of its ZoneFlex Smart Wi-Fi systems to help cable companies deliver sophisticated wireless Internet services.

Advances in mobile Internet content and proliferation of smart mobile devices are driving demand for convenient, high performance and robust internet access anywhere, anytime. According to market research firm In-Stat, over 1 billion Wi-Fi-enabled mobile devices will ship in 2012. For cable operators, a Smart Wi-Fi hotspot network helps increase subscriber stickiness while generating new revenue.

The 2009 CableLabs Technology Forum demonstration will show how a single, dual-band 802.11n smart Wi-Fi system can be leveraged to drive high definition digital signage with streaming video and advertising as well as smart hotspot services that deliver tailored content to users based on their location.
