Ruckus Wireless BeamFlex Technology Integrated into NETGEAR’s First-of-Kind, All-in-One Broadband Gateway
Ruckus Wi-Fi Signal Steering and Interference Avoidance Technology Helps NETGEAR Extend Its Lead in Delivering Innovative Consumer Products
MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA, November 1, 2005 – Ruckus Wireless, an innovator in next-generation wireless fidelity (Wi-Fi) technology, today announced that its patent-pending BeamFlex™ technology has again been selected by NETGEAR® and embedded into the world’s first line of home networking products that combines Smart MIMO (multiple in, multiple out) Wi-Fi technology directly into an “all-in-one” broadband gateway.
With NETGEAR’s new RangeMax™ ADSL Modem Wireless Router (DG834PN), consumers now have a single platform that provides all the features and functions of five discrete products (DSL modem, IP router, switch, firewall and Wi-Fi access point). By integrating Ruckus BeamFlex technology directly into the broadband gateway, consumers can, for the first time, enjoy the extended Wi-Fi range, stability and performance without having to purchase, deploy and manage multiple products.
“The Ruckus BeamFlex technology has enabled NETGEAR, in record time, to become the undisputed leader in MIMO-G nodes in the United States,” said David A. James, NETGEAR’s director of product management and marketing for broadband services. “But more importantly, BeamFlex has helped us quickly give our customers around the world the value and feature-richness they have come to expect. And our newest RangeMax product is no exception.”
James noted that the consumer market for home networking products is seeking a higher level of integration and simplicity at competitive prices. “With Ruckus BeamFlex, NETGEAR has been able to more quickly deliver to our customers new levels of integration along with benefits of MIMO at a fraction of the cost.”
Unlike conventional Wi-Fi, the Ruckus BeamFlex technology leverages any standard Wi-Fi chipset to dramatically extend Wi-Fi range and performance while providing unprecedented predictability for RF signals.
BeamFlex is a sophisticated antenna system that works with an expert software engine to pick the best path for RF signals while continuously monitoring the RF environment. Similarly to how the Internet selects the best path for IP packets, BeamFlex is revolutionary new technology that chooses the best path through the air for Wi-Fi traffic destined to any given endpoint. If interference is detected, BeamFlex selects a new path, automatically steering traffic around the interference.
“With Ruckus BeamFlex technology on board this exciting new line of broadband gateways, NETGEAR customers are assured unprecedented value, performance and simplicity,” said Selina Lo, president and CEO of Ruckus Wireless. “Ruckus BeamFlex technology has proven to provide what other technologies can’t: predictable performance and extended range for Wi-Fi networks. This is the bottom line for consumers around the world.”
Ruckus Wireless BeamFlex (smart antenna) and SmartCast (traffic engineering) technologies are licensed by third-party equipment manufacturers. In addition, Ruckus Wireless also markets and manufactures its own line of in-home multimedia wireless routers and adapters. The Ruckus system is the only one in the world that supports the reliable streaming of IPTV traffic over standard Wi-Fi technology. These products are sold through service providers around the world. PCCW, Hong Kong’s principal communications provider, is currently bundling the Ruckus router with its popular Netvigator broadband IP service.
