Senior RF Firmware Engineer

Ruckus Wireless, a pioneer in the field of adaptive smart antenna technology for 802.11 WiFi applications, has an immediate opening in its Sunnyvale office for a senior level firmware engineer who possesses a detailed understanding of WiFi chipset internal architecture and RF systems design with specific experience in firmware design and implementation related to new chipset bringup and performance tuning.

The successful candidate will have a minimum of five years design experience with at least two years of relevant experience working for a semiconductor manufacturer specifically in the area of board level firmware design to support new 802.11 chipsets. Expertise in physical data rate selection, transmit power control, AGC control, channel scanning and selection, and interference mitigation is required. Experience in 802.11n chipset and system design is highly desirable.

Additional experience with control systems theory, statistical modeling, and adaptive algorithms is a definite plus along with knowledge of the broader range of networking protocols and systems design. As appropriate for firmware development, a working knowledge on hardware board level design and troubleshooting methods including understanding schematics, operating logic analyzers, etc is desirable. The successful candidate must have experience across the full product lifecycle including concept, design, integration and test, and post release customer/product support.

This is an opportunity for a highly skilled firmware engineer with significant experience at the chipset hardware/software integration level to fully leverage that experience while gaining broader systems level exposure working at one of the hottest RF systems companies in the valley.

WLAN System Performance Czar

If you strive for excellence, don’t miss this excellent opportunity! You will gain broader wireless and systems level exposure working on leading edge products with the top engineers at one of the hottest RF systems companies in the valley!

Job Description

Ruckus Wireless invented the first-of-its-kind smart-WiFi technology that delivers the best wireless performance in the industry (http://www.ruckuswireless.com/technology/). We are obsessed with WLAN performance. We are creating an engineering position "Wireless System Performance Czar" with the mission to ensure new Ruckus products always keep the industry lead.

The performance engineer will work closely with CTO and selected senior development engineers during the critical stages of new product/feature development, interactively working to gather performance data and design new test methodologies to provide direct feedback into the design process therefore ensuring rapid convergence and design optimization.

The successful candidate will be responsible for deploying and maintaining wireless test networks required for the performance characterization of new designs (RF hardware and SW algorithm), developing data collection test tools, and performing data collection and data analysis activities in support of select advanced feature development projects.

Strong familiarity with switched and routed network topologies and protocols along with hands on experience with either the development or testing of 802.11 networks is required. Data analysis activities require solid analytic skills and familiarity with statistics. Familiarity with topics related to the RF physical layer such as rate adaptation, modulation methods, RF propagation and pathloss calculations, and antenna pattern characteristics is a significant plus.

Requirements

  • B.S. CS or EE engineering degree. MS or Ph.D significantly desired.
  • More than 3 years networking industry experience (SW development or SQA)
  • Strong experience with 802.11 wireless systems

Required Skills:

  • Python, C, Embedded Linux, Excel

Desired Skills

  • Experience with Network Test Tools (e.g. Chariot, iperf)
