- William Kish Co-founder & CTO
A co-founder of Ruckus Wireless, Bill has extensive experience in developing networking systems, and brings loads of system and software architecture expertise to the table. He’s been on the front lines in developing 802.11, ATM, Ethernet, IP, SONET and optical DWDM networking equipment, and has the scars to prove it. Bill is also a subject matter expert in embedded software systems and software development. Before joining Ruckus, he was a member of the technical staff at Lightera/Ciena, and held principal engineering positions at Berkeley Networks and FORE Systems. Bill received a B.S. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA. He climbs big rocks over and over for no reason.
- Q: What’s the next big peak for you to climb?
- A: Chimborazo in Ecuador. Because it’s high and snowy.
- Q: What makes you the happiest?
- A: Accomplishing something. Climbing, fixing, or making something.
- Q: Can you remember the biggest mistake you’ve made?
- A: I got off route on a rock climb in Yosemite. Ended up breaking my leg and needing a helicopter rescue. I’m on a Japanese tourist’s home video!
- Q: If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
- A: To be more tolerant of Victor Shtrom.
- Q: Who’s the person you admire the most?
- A: Chairman Mao. No, probably Richard Branson because he’s so successful in non-technology areas.
- Q: What is your least favorite word in the english language?
- A: Dongle.
- Q: What’s your biggest pet peeve?
- A: I don’t have any pet peeves. I just roll with it.
- Q: What’s your favorite type of dog?
- A: A cat. I’m definitely a cat person because of their attitude and grace.
- Q: What technology will have the greatest impact on people lives over the next decade?
- A: Wi-fi.

- A: Didn’t I already answer this question? Hmmm – Rick (Bogie) in Casablanca

- A: I’m not a fan.
